A new architecture
for conscious construction.
New Dianetics is a developmental framework for understanding how we construct our reality in the moment — and how we can learn to construct it differently. Built on Constructed Development Theory, Dynamic Intelligence and the CAIR model, it offers an awareness-led lens for reflective and developmental practice. It is not a clinical or mental-health treatment.
What is New Dianetics?
New Dianetics is a secular, developmental alternative to both religious moral systems and Hubbard’s original Dianetics. It is not a belief system. It is a way of modelling how human beings construct meaning, identity and behaviour in real time — and how that construction can become deliberate.
From repair to construction
Some models begin with a problem to be repaired. New Dianetics begins with a complementary developmental question: how is meaning being constructed now, and what becomes possible when that construction is noticed?
- The mind is a construction engine, not a broken machine.
- Present meaning-making shapes how experience is understood and acted upon.
- Greater awareness can widen choice without denying history, trauma or material conditions.
By focusing on how Cognitive Intentions combine in the moment, New Dianetics turns awareness itself into the mechanism of change.
Why now?
Religious, philosophical and psychological traditions offer different accounts of behaviour and change. New Dianetics asks what a specifically developmental account can add to that conversation.
The demands of the 21st century require a framework that:
- Explains how meaning is constructed.
- Respects developmental stages of awareness.
- Integrates ethics, cognition and identity without metaphysics.
New Dianetics is that framework.
The CAIR Method: Awareness in Motion
CAIR is the core reflective method proposed within New Dianetics. It replaces fixed “auditing” procedures with an adaptive, developmental dialogue that brings construction into awareness and turns it into choice.
Intention → Awareness → Choice → Response
- Intention — surface what the client is really aiming to construct.
- Awareness — reveal the Cognitive Intentions driving their patterns.
- Choice — offer alternative constructions and perspectives.
- Response — integrate new awareness into deliberate action.
At every stage, the practitioner is not imposing content; they are reflecting construction back to the client.
What changes in a CAIR session?
Old Dianetics asked, “What happened to you?”
New Dianetics asks, “What are you constructing, right now?”
This single shift:
- Moves focus from past events to present construction.
- Reveals habituated CI combinations and polarities.
- Increases Awareness Quotient by inviting meta-cognition.
- Turns reflection into a more deliberate developmental practice.
Awareness Quotient (AQ)
New Dianetics is explicitly developmental. Different clients construct their world at different levels of awareness. AQ provides a provisional language for exploring those differences without treating people as fixed types or presenting the model as a clinical diagnosis.
The vertical dimension of New Dianetics
Awareness Quotient describes how consciously an individual understands their own construction of self, other and world:
In New Dianetics, CAIR questions may differ according to the participant’s current reflective range. The aim is to expand awareness and choice, not to rank the person or impose a fixed developmental label.
The Unified Human Behavioural Framework (UHBF)
Across many religious and philosophical traditions, recurring ethical themes can be identified. UHBF proposes nine domains as a developmental synthesis of those themes rather than claiming that every tradition is identical.
The nine universal domains
UHBF is the proposed ethical backbone of New Dianetics. It offers a secular reflective framework for coaching, leadership, education and everyday life.
Practitioner Pathway
The proposed practitioner pathway is for experienced professionals who want to explore how construction, awareness and deliberate development can inform their existing practice. Development is led through the Institute for Adult Development.
Tools practitioners learn to use
- CI Explorer — mapping dominant and shadow Cognitive Intentions.
- AQ Reflections — scaffolding a client’s current awareness level.
- TQ lenses — understanding social-emotional positioning.
- Construction Tracker — logging shifts in construction over time.
- CAIR dialogue patterns — live, developmental intervention.
Developmental levels of practice
- Level 1 — Foundations in CDT, CIs, AQ and CAIR.
- Level 2 — CAIR mastery and meta-cognitive dialogue.
- Level 3 — AQ/TQ assessment and developmental tailoring.
- Level 4 — Full CDT integration across contexts.
- Level 5 — Supervisor / Trainer accreditation.
The developing pathway is intended for psychologists, therapists, coaches, leaders and academic practitioners who want an awareness-led developmental perspective and who will remain within the boundaries of their existing qualifications and professional scope.
Scope and professional boundaries
New Dianetics is presented as a conceptual and developmental framework. It is not psychotherapy, psychiatric or psychological treatment, medical advice, crisis support, or a substitute for qualified care.
Training in this framework does not confer a protected clinical title, licence or authority to diagnose or treat mental-health conditions. Practitioners remain responsible for working within their competence, qualifications, supervision and applicable professional standards.
What you construct, constructs you.
New Dianetics is not a new belief system. It is a new way of seeing how your mind builds reality in every moment. When you become conscious of that construction, you gain the freedom to change it.
