This book should hit the shelves towards the end of 2021! Feel free to read the introduction:
In general, humans are not very good at understanding how we construct our thinking and the unconscious intentions behind this construction. You might say: Of course we’re not: they’re unconscious! But they don’t have to be! So how can we make them more conscious? To use some psychology language, we lack the metacognitive capacity to think about our thinking from a developmental perspective. In my research, I found that self-awareness and intention are the mechanisms that make developmental cognitive growth possible and together we will uncover our level of self-awareness and the unconscious intention behind our actions. Then we'll look at changing them in order to grow our thinking Vertically.
In this book, we will explore how certain cognitive heuristics (shortcuts) facilitate cognitive growth with just a little self-awareness. Throughout the book several fields of psychology will be touched on to show how they work together to produce how we think; such as metacognition, stage development, thinking, memory and general intelligence. I will also introduce you to a novel, more encompassing theory called Constructed Development Theory, and it’s four pillars: Intention, Awareness, Choice and Response(TM), which together lead to our habituated Thinking Styles.
I am sure you have all heard about IQ, or Intelligence Quotient. It is so ubiquitous in almost all facets of our lives that words that come from its research have made it into our general vocabulary. This is also true of trait psychology. When someone tells you quite matter-of-factly that they are an Extrovert, have you ever asked them: how do you know? More importantly, have you ever asked them if they can choose not to be an Extrovert in the moment? The answer is usually on their face for a moment or two after asking. We will explore some of the pop-psychology that really falls short when it comes to thinking about our thinking as adults, and how we are not really surrounded by idiots; it’s actually about levels of developmental thinking!
This book will help you to appreciate that interpersonal conflict, between yourself and others, is simply the result of the people not understanding how the other thinks, and this is due to how they construct their thinking: it’s different to how you construct yours! That’s it! It’s not rocket surgery…
Together we will also look at some of the tools used in industry that are taken for granted as ‘useful’, when in reality, they could be so much more if we simply injected a little Intention, Awareness, Choice and Response into them. That was my favourite chapter to write!
Finally, we will investigate our Dynamic Intelligence and how we know what we know about our thinking in order to uncover the very facets of our construction using the Awareness Quotient tool. This is the measure of our self-awareness and its simplicity might surprise you!
So, without further ado, shall we begin deconstructing this classical mess we call psychology and delve into the relatively new arena of Metacognition for Adults?
Incidentally, there is another book available on Amazon if you would like to check it out... for those over a certain age I would say!
